Tournament news Having agreed earlier to run a Handicap Tournament this was scheduled to take place on Saturday morning, 26th November. On the day one of the disappointing small entry of 8 persons did not turn up so we tried to go ahead on the basis of everyone playing everyone else. Because of time restraints & the inability of several having to pull out during the morning (injury & other commitments that afternoon) this proved impossible and there could be no outright winner. However, all agreed that they had had an enjoyable time so it may be possible to put on another such event next season but obviously we do need a minimum of at least a dozen players to make it worthwhile. The usual Christmas Squash Doubles Tournament took place on Saturday morning 31st December. Enough people turned up on the day to make up seven pairs so these were divided into two leagues – one with four teams & the other with three. In an attempt to give everybody the same court time the larger league played the best of three games whilst the others played the best of five and this meant that both leagues finished at about the same time after several very close games. The final was played between the winning pairings of each league and this proved to be the closest match of the whole morning’s play. Ivan Hallett, playing with Mark Cullington, won the first game, lost the second and they were within one point of victory at 14 / 9 in the deciding game. However Michael Hallett & Iain Cameron fought back valiantly and ran out winners by 15 points to 14. After the presentations there was a short discussion on whether to try a more regular doubles evening and it was decided that this could be arranged on spare Friday evenings during the coming months when there were no Hampshire League matches. Graham Browne agreed to sort out dates, book the courts and e-mail everybody who had taken part as well as anyone one else interested.

Christmas Doubles Tournament 2010, Sunday January 2nd (2011). This actually took place on Sunday morning, 2nd January and like many other Squash Tournaments in the past few years the number of entries continues to fall. This time there were only a dozen people participating so, once the draw for partners had taken place, we ran two leagues each of three teams and the winners of each league played each other in the final. As a variation to previous tournaments each match was decided on the best of five games and this ensured some close early matches - indeed the only game won 3 – 0 was the final itself in which Rhys Glide and Simon Udal beat Ed Percival and Adrian Jones.
